At Prana Pilates we teach both West Coast and East Coast styles of Pilates in order to best accommodate our clients.
As Pilates has been passed down over the years, the original exercises have been modified, often referred to as the West Coast Style of Pilates. This style integrates therabands, balls, foam rollers, breathing techniques and other movement methods to create a workout and provide imagery.
The East Coast Style, otherwise known as the Classical System, teaches exercises that are closer to what Joseph Pilates actually taught. This system emphasizes the sequencing of exercises while focusing primarily on the powerhouse or core. The number of repetitions are specific as is the breathwork for numerous exercises.
